Cornell Men B Side Cornell Faded Red Alumni Event

Over the weekend of October 17th and 18th, the Cornell University men's rugby club had its first annual alumni old-boys weekend. Twenty-one players from the past 4 decades returned to Ithaca for the event.

The weekend's activities began with watching Cornell defeat Columbia for its first win in the inaugural season of the Ivy League. After the game, the B-side took on the motley alumni side in what resulted in a solid victory for the alums. Most of those who played had graduated in the past 7 years; however, graduates from the '70s, '80s, and '90s came to play as well.
Matches were followed by an on-field BBQ for all players involved, as well as family and friends. The evening's events began with a banquet for the alumni with the current players invited as guests -- a total of 51 people were in attendance. Man of the Match awards were given out, and speeches were given by the team captain, the coach, and a few alumni. This was followed by a night on the town visiting all of the old favorite spots around Ithaca.
All in all, it was an excellent weekend, and fun for all. It was also a great reminder of the strength of the men's rugby program, and the level of commitment of current and past players. The amount of support from the alumni group was overwhelming, with nearly $3,500 raised on top of all the weekend expenses.
We are already looking forward to organizing a much larger event for 2010.

Following the Men's Club 1st XV match against Columbia University, the Alumni Side will take on the Men's Club 2nd XV in a full match. A BBQ at the pitch will follow the games and an alumni dinner will take place that evening with the current Men's Club members as guests.
Graduates of all classes are cordially invited, as are wives, girlfriends and children. We intend to make the BBQ and dinner family-friendly events. Mark your calendars and call your old rugby buddies. It’s time to rebuild lost connections and unite to push Cornell Men's Rugby to the next level -- and have a little fun doing it! This is also Homecoming weekend, all the more reason to come to Ithaca.
